National Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall 2018 Foreign Students Chinese Public Speaking Competition



1. Objective: The competition is held on Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s birthday (November 12th) to commemorate his
       remarkable achievements, to motivate the student’s recognition 
 of ‘Sunology (Dr.Sun’s theory and beliefs),
       the Chinese culture.

►3. Organizer: National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall

►4. Contestants: Qualification for entry into the competition requires foreign students to be enrolled in a Taiwanese
        educational institution. The contestant needs to be at least 18 years of age, and does not hold R.O.C nationality.

►5. Eligibility: a. In order to encourage new applicants, any prize winners (1st prize through to 4th prize) from the 2017
       competition are not eligible to apply. b. Any group applications are limited to a maximum number of 4 persons of
       the same educational institution. All applications need to be stamped with the official stamps of approval from
       contestants’ school. c. Inappropriate, vulgar, violent, obscene, and salacious content are forbidden to be in the
       contestant’s speech. d. All contestants of whom either their or parent’s first language or official language is
       Chinese (including provincial dialects) are not eligible to apply.

►6. Registration Method: Please send the registration form, stamped with the official stamp to signify approval from
       the contestants’ schools and copy of passport, within registration period to the following address: NATIONAL Dr.
       SUN YAT-SEN MEMORIAL HALL EXTENSION SERVICE DIVISION No.505, Sec.4, Ren-ai Rd., Taipei. We do not accept
       registration via fax. You can download the registration form from the National Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall
       website. (http://www.yatsen.gov.tw/ ). All applications must include a copy of the corresponding applicant’s
       passports. 


7. Total Number of Applicants: The total number of applicants is limited to 90 contestants, which is of ‘a first come,
       first serve basis’ . We will stop accepting applications once we reach 90 applicants. The list of contestants will be
       posted on the website.


8. Activity Period: a. Registration Date : from now on to October. 5 th (Fri), 2018 b. Sequence: Making public on the
       website of Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall before October 30, 2018. c. Competition Date: 9 am., November 6 th
       (Tue), 2018 d. Competition Site: Lecture Hall on 1st Floor, National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall (No.505, Sec.4,
       Ren-ai Rd., Taipei)


9. Method of Registration: Applicants with copy of passport checking in at Lecture Hall of Memorial Hall on B1 on
       Nov. 6th (Tue) from 8 am to 8:45 am.


10. Speech Topics: (choose one) a. Thanks to the Benefactors in My Life b. Discussing from A Current Event c. Free and
         Self-regulation d. The Ability of Conversion Pressure e. The Courage to Humble Oneself


11. Judgement: Jury composed of professionals hired by organizer

12. Standard of Grading: a. content 40%, posture 20%, expression 30%, time-control 10%, total 100% b. The time limit
         is suggested to be between 4-5 minutes. A bell will be rung once at 4 minutes, then twice at 5 minutes. If the
         speech surpasses 6 minutes, the bell will be rung three times and one point will be deducted for every additional
         minute over the time limit.)


13. Reward: The winner: A certification and NT $ 10,000, one person, total 1 The second place winner:A
        certification and NT $ 8,000, one person, total 1 The third place winner: A certification and NT $ 6,000, one
        person, total 1 The fourth place winner: A certification and NT $ 4,000, one person, total 1 The superiors: A
        certification and NT $ 3,000, one person, total 12 According to the taxation law of the R.O.C., the prize winner shall
        receive the corresponding net amount after a 20% tax deduction of the prize money. Any failure to comply will
        result in disqualification and hence no prize money will be allocated.


14. Copyright: All contestants must agree to being recorded by the National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall. The
         recordings may be published on the Hall’s publication and website, and contestants must also agree to allow
         other institutions to download the recordings where it may be circulated and passed on.


15. Notice: (1) All participants are required to comply with the competition’s rules. If any violations occur, the
          organizers have the right to immediately cancel the qualification of the contestant, even including after awarding.
          (No recurrence award) The organizer has the final decision on the dispute, the contestants have no right to
          object. (2) Due to any disasters or any other major causes, National Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall have right to
          cease, delay or prolong the competition. (3) If the contestants perform less than standard awards, the award
          could be missed or reduce admissions. (4) Organizers do not pay any fees or compensation to be contestants. (5)
          For the content of the speech, participants can prepare their own simple clothing and speech equipment.
