Established just ten years ago, the Nanhua University baseball team has become an important training ground for cultivating professional players. Guided by the goal of spreading Buddhism through sports as advocated by Venerable Master Hsing-Yun, the founder of Fo Guang Shan and Nanhua University, the team integrates the "Three Acts of Goodness" initiative into professional training. Through cross-national and interdisciplinary learning, it has become a unique training platform in Taiwan that combines humanistic literacy with sports science education. Recently, Vice President Yueh-Chiao Yeh led a delegation to the United States for exchanges and made a special trip to California to visit Taiwanese player Chung-Hsiang Huang, who is in the Arizona Diamondbacks minor league system. She inquired about his training and development, offering encouragement and support, demonstrating the University's ongoing care for student-athletes and its commitment to international connections.
Nanhua University President Chin-Hsung Kao stated that all Nanhua baseball team members are students in the Bachelor's Program in Sports and Health Promotion. Since its establishment, under the leadership of Head Coach Chung-Nan Tsai, the team has achieved remarkable results, including winning runner-up in the University Baseball League for two consecutive years. To date, 18 outstanding players have been selected by Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL) teams. Among them, distinguished alumnus Po-Ching Chen plays as a pitcher for the TSG Hawks professional baseball team. With his exceptional skills, he was selected for the national team in the "2024 WBSC Premier 12" tournament and helped the team win the world championship, bringing glory to his country. Additionally, sophomore Chung-Hsiang Huang, who possesses a powerful fastball reaching 155 km/h, signed with the MLB Arizona Diamondbacks last year (2025) and began his professional baseball career in the United States. President Kao emphasized that the University has recently received a grant from the National Science and Technology Council for its "Power Hitter Project" and has established a professional sports science laboratory and a strength training center. Through scientific precision training and physical data tracking, the University aims to comprehensively enhance athletes' competitive performance, cultivate more baseball elites with international competitiveness and strong character to shine on professional baseball stages both at home and abroad.
