The annual "Spring Reception – Welcoming Spring and Blessings" event of the Department of Visual Arts and Design at Nanhua University took place at Zhong-Dao Building on December 30, 2025. Organized by the department's student association, the event invited University President Chin-Hsung Kao to perform the ceremonial “First Brushstroke.” The Dean of the College of Arts and Design, Cheng-Che Chen, and the Chair of the Department of Visual Arts and Design, Hsueh-Jung Lo, led faculty and students in the spring calligraphy event, using art to write blessings to welcome the new year.
Now in its seventh year, the "Spring Reception – Welcoming Spring and Blessings" event, rich with educational and cultural significance, has become an annual tradition for the Department of Visual Arts and Design. This year, President Kao wrote the characters "Ma Dao Cheng Gong" (Success Upon the Horse's Arrival) on a large sheet of red paper, symbolizing the faculty and students' determination and success in the Year of the Horse. This also echoed the founder Venerable Master Hsing-Yun's New Year greeting for 2026: “Harmony and Co-Existence, Galloping Towards Success.
In addition to writing blessings with calligraphy brushes, the event also featured traditional festive activities such as writing spring couplets and solving lantern riddles. Students also showcased their creativity by painting on art boards and invited the president to add inscriptions to their work. Through the fusion of artistic creation and Lunar New Year traditions, the faculty and students of the Department of Visual Arts and Design welcomed the Year of the Horse in a warm and joyful atmosphere, looking forward to a bright future.
