Nanhua University Celebrates Buddha's Birthday with Calligraphy and School Song to Promote Three Acts of Goodness Spirit

To commemorate the sacred annual Buddha's Birthday and Mother's Day, as well as President Chin-Hsung Kao’s one-year anniversary in office, the University library organized a special "Bathing the Buddha Ceremony with Dharma Words Calligraphy and University Song Performance" event on May 8, 2025. Combining calligraphy art, University song performance, and the Buddha bathing ritual, the event honored both the benevolence and wisdom of Buddha and the nurturing love of mothers. Nearly one hundred faculty and students participated, creating an atmosphere filled with gratitude and blessings while showcasing the University's humanistic spirit.

The event began with a performance by the winning team from the "Three Acts of Goodness University Song Competition" held during the University anniversary celebrations—the Department of Ethnomusicology faculty and students—who sang the University song composed by our founder, Venerable Master Hsing Yun, with melodious voices. Their performance radiated youthful energy and artistic depth. President Kao, celebrating his one-year anniversary in office, personally wrote the University song in calligraphy for the library's collection and led everyone in singing.

Venerable Jue Yu, the University's resident director, emphasized that writing the University song or Dharma words requires a calm mind to truly grasp their wisdom and connect with the founder's spirit. Venerable Jue Yu presided over the Buddha bathing blessing ceremony and shared that, as members of Nanhua University, everyone should understand the founder's background and recognize that the University was established by the Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Order. She encouraged integrating Buddhist values of respect, tolerance, harmony, and unity into one’s daily life.

Every year during Buddha's Birthday, Fo Guang Shan's Yuan Fu Temple holds blessing events and sets up a Buddha bathing area in front of the University's library, allowing faculty and students to freely participate. This practice serves as a reminder to honor Buddha's benevolence and wisdom and to consistently practice the Three Acts of Goodness in everyday life.
