The Ministry of Education's University Social Responsibility (USR) Program has entered its fourth phase, emphasizing "local engagement" and "talent cultivation." Nanhua University has consistently received recognition from the pilot phase to the current fourth phase, establishing itself as a national model for promoting "Slow Food, Slow Travel, and Slow Living." On June 4, 2025, the University hosted the "2025 International Symposium on Local Revitalization under the Slow Movement Thinking – Local Experiences of Practicing Learning Cities." The event gathered distinguished guests and featured a "Yunlin Slow Food – Earth Market" where local farmers showcased and sold their produce, offering attendees a deeper understanding of slow food, slow travel, and slow living.
President Chin-Hsung Kao stated that Nanhua University's USR team has long been dedicated to the betterment of agricultural environments, slow food and the ecology, slow living and mindfulness, and international diplomacy. With over a decade of experience in driving local revitalization, the team focuses on spreading the international Slow City learning ethos to create sustainable urban-rural communities. The University organizes annual international symposia and expos. This year’s event, themed "Practical Experiences of Learning Cities," brought together scholars from more than 10 universities, representatives from the Chiayi County Government's Education Department, leaders of Taiwan's Slow Towns, and over 200 students, faculty, and community members.
This year’s symposium also featured special guests, including the Director of International Affairs at Payap University (Thailand), the President of the Malaysia Talent Cultivation and Industry-Academia Collaboration Association, and a Professor from Florida Atlantic University (USA), demonstrating Nanhua University's global collaborations and achievements.
